MXR Rockman X100

MXR Rockman X100
With the MXR Rockman X100 Analog Tone Processor, you can bring the essence of the legendary sounds of the '80s directly to your pedalboard. From crystal-clear cleans to legendary distortion sounds, this pedal is the key to capturing the power and textures of the rock arena era.

In 1982, Tom Scholz, visionary guitarist and founder of the hard rock band Boston, developed the Rockman X100, a revolutionary headphone amplifier, which was brought to market through his electronics company Scholz Research & Development (SR&D). But the X100 was far more than a simple headphone amplifier. With recording console connections, extensive sound options, and integrated effects, the X100 quickly became a secret studio weapon that helped shape the signature chorus-heavy arena rock sound of the '80s.

MXR is now bringing this iconic device back with the Rockman X100 Analog Tone Processor, a pedal that embodies the DNA of the original headphone amp. Working with Bob Cedro, then at SR&D, the MXR design team recreated the same crystal-clear tones, crunchy harmonics, and sparkling modulations of the original. This analog pedal retains the four presets, carefully tuned compression, and the famous chorus effect with Bucket Brigade circuitry. It also offers mono/stereo modes and optional external control for an even better user experience.

Revised compression : A crucial element of the original X100 sound was a complex compression system that ensured a clear signal in both clean and distorted modes. The MXR Rockman X100 Analog Tone Processor incorporates the same circuitry, optimized for a slow release time in clean mode and a fast release time in dirty mode. The compression dynamically adjusts to the input gain-higher gain results in more compression.

Modes: Like the original, this pedal also offers four modes that can be selected via the MODE switch:
  • CLN2: Crystal clear clean sound, ideal for arpeggios and open chords.
  • CLN1: Clean sound with more midrange, offering a precise and assertive attack.
  • EDGE: Moderate overdrive that is sensitive to gain and volume changes on the guitar.
  • DISTORTION: Intense distortion with endless sustain, perfect for flowing and epic solos.

  • Signal control: Two sliders allow easy sound design:
Input Gain: Adjusts the interaction of the input signal with the four modes, especially EDGE.
Volume: Controls the overall output level to the amplifier.

Chorus Bucket Brigade: Thanks to the legendary MN3007 chip from the original amp, the Rockman X100 Analog Tone Processor delivers a rich, spatial chorus effect, activated with a simple press of the Chorus button. Every riff is enveloped in an immersive sonic texture.

Advanced configuration : For even more flexibility, an external switch like the MXR TRS Split + Tap can be connected to switch modes via foot control. In stereo mode, the signal can be split between the left and right channels, with the dynamic chorus providing impressive spatial depth.
