SMD Breadboard

(0 reviews)

Makes it easy to realize a SMD based circuit, or a mixed SMD and DIP circuit, breadboard style. The board shows a multitude of square, solder-stable, gold-plated pads, which are optimally dimensioned for the use of SMD types 0603, 0805, 1206/1210 as well as type A (= 3216). The corners of the pads are slightly rounded. The SMD components are soldered straight or diagonally from pad to pad. Of course, through-hole components can also be used. For the pad-to-pad connections, zero-ohm SMD bridges or short pieces of wire are recommended. Longer bridges can be made with (insulated) wire. Offset pad rows allow the use of SOT23 components (transistors, diodes, LEDs...).

For removal, simply heat the two pads simultaneously with a broad soldering iron tip and lift off the component to be removed with stainless steel or ceramic tweezers, done! Soldering suction wire cleans the pads if necessary, so the board can be used again for new circuits.

4 screw holes allow the board to be mounted in an enclosure or on an insulating carrier plate (to avoid accidental destructive closures caused by tin beads, wire snippets or the like on the carrier). At the left (and right) edge, the pads are kept a little larger so that any supply and return lines can be soldered on more easily.

As with the classic plug-in breadboards, there are 'power rails' for the circuit supply (1x plus [in the middle, kept in red] and 2x minus [outside, here coloured blue]):
Power supply lines plus (+) red and minus (-) blue Power-On LED.
The supply voltage is connected on the left, pads for an optional 'power-on' LED (plus series resistor) are provided right next to it.

Additional individual power supply pads are 'interspersed' in the pad areas (these are connected internally to the rails, see colour scheme). These 'power pads' are specially shaped (and edged in white) to avoid confusion and incorrect connections: a stylised cross for '+', a ground symbol for '-' (minus / GND).

Such 'power pads' are also present on the lower side. If you choose the position of the components or breakout boards wisely, you may be able to save bridges to the 'power rails'.
Four places in the corners (next to the screw holes) are specially provided for decoupling capacitors ('pads') from plus to minus (ground/GND), these 4 places should all be populated if possible (with 0.1uF - 10uF ceramic, observe dielectric strength) before the board is used.
